Four injured in Kimbe town ethnic clash

FOUR people have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries in Kimbe following an ethnic clash last weekend.
But West New Britain Governor Peter Humphries has denied media reports that a body was dumped at his residence, and chants of abuse directed at him.
A spokesman for the governor said Mr Humphries was always present at his home and was not aware of a body being tossed into his yard.
But other sources in the province said the body of an Arawe man was taken to the governor’s premises but the governor did not make any attempt to come out to meet the people and hear their frustrations over the increase in criminal activities in the province.
The clash was believed to have started between youths from Goroka and Simbu in a settlement near Kimbe town following reports of a man, who allegedly attempted to harass and rape two Simbu girls.
The Simbu people retaliated the next day, and the fight escalated into an all-out ethnic clash, resulting in at least 17 houses being burnt down and several people injured.
