Four killed in Dei on Boxing Day

By JAMES APA GUMUNO
Four people were killed in Dei district in Western Highlands province last Wednesday.

According to police, the election-related fight between two groups within the Minimibi tribe claimed four lives on Boxing Day.
Provincial police commander chief Insp Ambane Kaiglo said yesterday that the fight was brought under control and rural zones police were now monitoring the situation.
Insp Kaiglo, however, said so far the people in the province celebrated the Christmas and New Year peacefully.
He said that unlike in the past there was hardly any major trouble during the festive period because of the 24-hour police operation in the province.
Insp Kaiglo said some drunken people behaving disorderly on the road were beaten by the police and sent home.
He also said that there were no problems faced on the roads with the public travelling freely to and fro.
He said it was a good indication that people were now starting to behave and recognising the importance of the festive season unlike in the past.
He said the Christmas and New Year’s operation would continue until end of this month and urged people not to get involved in any criminal activities or cause disorder in public places or in their communities.
Insp Kaiglo said if anyone was caught breaking the laws, he or she would be seriously dealt with and would face the full force of the law.
He commended the people for promoting peace and urged them to assist the police to maintain law and order in the province.
