Samiak keen to know who signatories are
THE Boram hospital chief has said that he will like to know,
who the signatories of a trust account are so that he will work closely with
them to draw funds for the maintenance of the hospital projects.
Boram chief executive Dr Louis Samiak refused to accept the story that over
90% of the K300,000 held in a trust account had been used already between
2004 and 2006.
Dr Samiak said if money was used for projects at the hospital there, were no
evidence, both in paper and physical work.
He said the signatories to the trust account should make themselves known if
money was spent, they should provide evidence to prove that it .
The K300,000 was raised through a fundraising drive to maintain the Boram
hospital in 2004. The money was held in a trust account with three
signatories.
Dr Samiak, who took over from Linda Tamsen last March said he would initiate
renovation and maintenance projects this year and want to know who the
signatories were so that he would submit the scope of work to them for
approval and funding.
Meanwhile, a senior member of the fundraising committee on condition of
anonymity said certain amounts of money were drawn to the hospital between
2004 and 2006.
He said some money was drawn for maintenance projects where the three
signatories of the trust account, who signed the cheques should specify.
Reliable sources said a first payment of K80,000 was made for electricity
bills and the second payment of K200,000 was made payable in cheque to the
hospital.
The fundraising for the Boram hospital was supported by the Prime Minister
Sir Michael Somare and other prominent Sepik figures.
