Young mum dies after being kicked

A YOUNG breast-feeding mother was kicked by her intoxicated husband at Peter
Block in Kamkumung, Lae, resulting in her death on New Year’s eve.
The deceased, Tiatao Genong from Finschhafen, was at her home nursing their
infant when her husband arrived between 8pm and 9pm from a nightclub.
A heated argument ensured during which her husband started kicking her
violently in the ribs causing damages to her internal organs.
She was taken to the Angau hospital but succumbed to her injuries on the
way.
She was pronounced dead on arrival.
Also on New Year’s eve at Namanula Hill, a woman was raped at 8pm and
abandoned by the roadside when police found her and took her to the
hospital.
Two days earlier at 4pm, woman at Menyamya Block, Bumbu, was also raped
while on her way to the river to bathe.
A suspect is currently in police custody after being handed over by the
Menyamya community.
Last Monday, eight armed men at 5-Mile robbed occupants of a vehicle
travelling from Nadzab Airport while a break-in each was reported at West
Taraka and Bumbu Road.
At Taraka, a police officer’s house was broken into and emptied of a
brush-cutter worth K1,700, a TV, a radio valued at K130 and K200 cash.
The thieves gained entry by breaking the door locks with a stone.
Three arrests were made with seven suspects still at large. The items,
however, have not been recovered.
The Bumbu Road break-in occurred at 3am last Friday, resulting in the
suspect escaping with a spare tyre from a parked vehicle in a residential
area. The suspect had cut through the fence with a bolt cutter, unlocked the
vehicle taking the tyre.
