Air Niugini employees truly good ambassadors
I TRAVEL frequently by Air Niugini between Goroka and
Port Moresby. Generally, I find Air Niugini employees at all ports and
offices are excellent with good PR skills, right attitude and truly are good
ambassadors of the national carrier.
And those in Goroka, from security guards onwards, are just like most of
their counterparts around the country, efficient and hard-working. - Yapi

Get your priorities right
I WOULD like to challenge all department heads to get
their priorities right and serve Papua New Guineans. Many of them are
concentrating on national matters and forgetting about provincial matters
which they feel are not part and parcel of the development process. I call
on the Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari to get down to the bottom of this
stupidity. I also urge the Public Accounts Committee chairman Timothy Bonga
to make public the findings of the Department of National Planning and Rural
Development office. Parliament should abolish these offices and set up a
competent authority to serve the people. – John Kriosaki, Wewak
A vote for Lae
CAN the body responsible for the administering of the PNG Games consider Lae
city as the permanent venue for the games? The reason is Lae is central and
is easily accessible by both participants and spectators from other
provinces. It has the facilities to cater for all sports and has the
potential to draw direct corporate sponsorship as most of the large
industries are based in Lae. On this note, may I suggest that the 2009 PNG
Games be held in Lae again? I would also like to see swimming, outrigger
canoeing, sailing, beach volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, martial arts
and cycling be introduced in the 2009 edition. – Barana Ugaia, Lae
Congratulations Abe
I REFER to the report “ICCC commissioner installed as chief” (Dec 31). On
behalf of my family in Rigo, I would like to congratulate Thomas Abe for
being made the paramount chief of the Sivitatana village by virtue of his
chiefly inheritance and outstanding public conduct and leadership. I would
like to thank the tribal leaders of Sivitatana for reviving this tradition
in Rigo. I hope other tribes in Rigo look at the example set by Sivitatana
so that we can have tribal leadership to complement the efforts of local
level government and provincial government in providing services to the
people. – Reuben G. Elijah, Lae
Tanzania worse than PNG
PNG has been getting bad press in the Tanzanian media lately. One of the
Tanzanians working in PNG has been describing the appalling state he has
been experiencing from living conditions to education system, life
expectancy, GDP, etc. Well, I have been living in Tanzania for the last two
years and let me tell you that Tanzania is the least developed country in
the African continent. As such, I was ashamed and frustrated to read about
my country being described negatively. – Miok soul, Tanzania
