No power for Madang

THERE will be a 12-hour blackout in Madang on Sunday to allow PNG Power engineers work on the Walium sub-station.
It was not known whether the Ramu Sugar township and Lae city will be affected by the work.
Pressure has been mounting against PNG Power to lift its level of output to Madang.
And with the development of the Ramu Nickel project, the demand had surged further.
PNG Power has been forced to conduct load-shedding in Madang.
With the energising of the Walium plant, the rate of intermittent blackouts are likely to be lowered.
There was no official word from the PNG Power headquarters in Hohola, Port Moresby, nor from the Yonki Hydro power station, the main supplier of electricity to the Highlands region, Lae and Madang.
