Lawyer wins Ute
A LAWYER was the lucky winner of a brand new Ute of the “Buy to Win” joint promotion between SP Brewery and PNG Nambawan Trophy Limited (NWTL). Dickson Kombagle of Parua Lawyers won a Nissan Nevara Ute after his name was drawn out by Chief Sgt Daniel Aigilo assisted by marketing
manager for NWTL Yolande Gui and NWTL operations managers Andrew Munap and Andrew Clarke during the draw last month. Another lucky winner from Lae walked away with the banana boat and motor at the same draw. The total value of prizes was over K100,000.

Police raid Gavien settlement
ANGORAM police raided the Gavien settlement resulting in the confiscating of a bag of marijuana, homebrew, five home-made and two factory-made shotguns. Insp Charles Parinjo said it was generally peaceful with most celebrations happening indoors, and sporting events. He thanked the auxiliary police for their efforts in keeping the peace in Angoram.

Four New Year babies in Hagen
FOUR babies were born on New Year’s day at the Mt Hagen General Hospital. Nursing officers said the heaviest baby was a boy weighing 3.8kg, whose
mother Anna John hails from Kaiwe village just outside of Mt Hagen city. Nurses said that this was her third son. She described her baby as the best New Year present for the family.

Modilon delivers six babies
MODILON General Hospital in Madang recorded six New Year babies by 11am on Jan 1. The first to be born at 1.01am on New Year’s day. However, the baby died soon after from “down’s syndrome”. The next one was born at 7.05am to Betty Sailas of Keviak in Madang province. Mrs Sailas was blessed with her first child, a bouncing 3.4kg boy and both mother and baby were doing well at the labour ward when The National caught up with them. A nursing officer at the labour ward added that the hospital recorded seven births on Christmas Day.

Oro man acquitted for stealing
THE National Court in Lae last month acquitted an Oro man of stealing K28,156 belonging to a family gold-buying business in Wewak, East Sepik province. John Oari from Gona village, appeared before Lae resident judge Justice Sao Gabi, charged with the theft of the money belonging to Singut & Sons. Justice Gabi, however, found that the State was unable to submit credible evidence before the court in order to prosecute the accused and threw out the charge.

Able’s third annual draw
ABLE Computing held its third annual mega draw, known as the Christmas draw at its Port Moresby branch just before Christmas Day. General sales
manager Maria Bautista said the annual draw was one way of showing their appreciation to their loyal customers’ nationwide. She said that each year, the prizes got bigger and better. The three major prizes included a trip for two to Brisbane with three nights’ accommodation and spending money of A$1,000, a 14 in plasma colour TV and a laser laptop as well as 10 consolation prizes.
