Moresby softball back on track after a break

By EKONIA PENI
A THRILLER of a match is anticipated tomorrow between Stingerz and Dolphins in the women’s match of the day as the Digicel Port Moresby softball competition resumes after a two-week break.

And Airways Bears and PNG Power will top of the weekend’s matches with the main match for the men’s competition on Sunday.
Stingerz have been cruising smoothly at the start of the season but were jolted with a couple of losses on the trot before the break through lack of focus on their games.
If they have not yet recovered then they could face stiff opposition from a determined Dolphins team whose ability to win matches has been evident during the season.
Stingerz will rely on the batting Shirley Tomangana, Leno and Nicky Simba, Tesa and Selina Karai for a much needed win.
However, Dolphins who could be facing a play-off in the finals if they do well cannot be taken lightly. They have capable players like Yaking Haii, Esther Xkenjix, and the Aitsi sisters Vero and Lara whose batting class could be their team’s strike power if they click.
In the other women’s matches Bee Hive Gazelle should beat Malangan while Admiralty will be on bye.
On Sunday Budget Real Estate Wantoks could face an uphill battle against seasoned campaigners Airways Bears.
PNG Power are expected to win against Airways Bears after their first round points were stripped off due to late registration.
Skipper and catcher Isikel Tovia Jnr’s combination with catcher brother Danny Tovia will be PNG Power’s focal point of attack against Bears batters.
However, it will require quality batting by Mark Simon, Joe Avuchulas Jnr, Sam Malum, Narius Kua and Conzie Bais for a Bears win. A close result is expected in this encounter.
In the other matches LBC Gazelle should beat Samurai tomorrow.
On Sunday a close tussle should be seen between Brown Eagles and Kopex, and SPIA Manolos while comfortable against Dolphins should not underestimate their opponents who are capable of causing an upset.
Malangan will be on bye.
