Bowling for the young
THE game of bowling is growing at a rapid pace in the
Klinkii pine township of Bulolo with many young people taking up the sports.
Samson Carlos, 20, is one young man who had taken a keen interest in the
sports of bowls and had began playing in a team in Bulolo.
Carlos had raised a few eyes brows with his bowling skills and had
represented Bulolo in the last PNG Forest Products mixed triples
championships played in Bulolo two weeks ago and showed he had a bright
future. “I’m interested in the sport as it involves a lot of mental
preparations to play,” he said. His keenness and ability was evident when he
represented Bulolo in the PNG Forest Products sponsored competition.
“I urge all the young people doing nothing to take up the sport as it is fun
and exciting to play a very skillful game that is loved by many people. It
is not the old people’s game as many would say but a sport in its own right.
How it is played that is important,” he said.
Bottom teams clash
THE second half of the Port Moresby A grade cricket
competition is set to get underway this weekend when cellar dwellers
Mariners, battling to avoid the wooden spoon, take on struggling Wesram
Taora tomorrow at Amini park in the A grade division. In other A grade
fixtures table toppers and premiership favourites Raukele go head to head
with BNG Poreporena at the Colts oval tomorrow, while on Sunday at Amini,
Mobil STC will be aiming for a convincing win over fourth placed KCC in
order to stay with in range of the top four.
The second match on Sunday will see the second to last TST Coasters go up
against second place SNS United in what should be an interesting tussle with
both teams coming off loses in their last games.
The ladder is: Raukele (32), SNS United (27), BNG Poreporena (24), and KCC
(19) rounding off the top four then followed by Mobil STC (12), Wesram Taora
(11), TST Coasters (8) and Mariners (7).
Tournament winding down
TEN men and women volleyball teams are taking part in
a Christmas and New Year volleyball tournament at Unitech, Lae. The finals
will be played next weekend and the teams are fighting to secure top
placings in the competition ladder.
An organiser said yesterday they decided to hold the Christmas and the New
Year volleyball tournament and united the nearby residents to form teams to
take part in the inaugural tournament inside the Taraka campus. “We held a
successful tournament in the past two weekends and all the teams are divided
into two pools of the men’s and women’s and they are playing against each
other in the inaugural tournament,” she said.
“The teams will play in two pools and the winners will meet in the finals
next weekend. We should see interesting games coming up between the top
teams in each pools rubbing shoulders against each other to secure the top
placing in the competition ladder.”
An open invite has been sent to campus residents to turn up in full force. |
