POM police enjoy belated festive party

Members of the Port Moresby police sector patrol stood down for three hours from their demanding official 24 hours duty to have their belated festive party last Saturday.
The party was held at the Waigani police station for officers who worked over the Christmas and New Year period.
Port Moresby sector commander Senior Insp Ben Turi said that they should have a bit of fun together to reward themselves for their hard work rather than to work in isolation and only to know each other to report and charge fellow officers when they made mistakes.
Mr Turi said since last Sept 1, he had charged and suspended without pay 18 of his officers on disciplinary grounds for being absent without leave (AWOL) during official hours.
It was reported that these officers become private security guards for politicians and businessmen.
They also received similar penalties for drinking alcohol during official hours.
Suspension of six other officers are still pending while the rest have been reinstated.
There are about 100 members with the sector patrol.
