Upsets in netball
UPSETS was the order of the day in Private Companies
Netball competition when it resumed yesterday after long Christmas and New
Year break. The PCNC executives were disappointed with the attendance but
said they have anticipated for a poor turn-out at Rita Flynnís netball Court
in Boroko.
However, Brian Bell pair of Solita Roge (GA) and Lina Raka (GS) got their
team rolling to beat rivals Fairdeal 31-12 in the premier netball game. Roge
top scored with 29 points while Raka piled another 12 to bring the tally to
31 while Fairdeal pair Seri Nao (GA) and Geno Gideon (GS) had a day off only
pot 7 and 5 respectively.
Brian Bell led by Roge, Raka, Jacinta Api, Larisa Tabua and Osma Henry went
on to pile in 19 points in the opening half to set their foundation for
victory while Fairdeal only managed points. In the second half, Brian Bell
extended their lead with 21 points while Fairdeal scored only seven points
to bring the final tally to 31-12.
Apart from Nao and Gideon, Ilima Kokena, Cecilia Aihi, Nelly Boiro and
Samantha Jeiso tried their best but could not stop the well-oiled Brian Bell
attacking machines.
In the other match Westpac came from a 4-4 draw at opening half to win the
match 14-10. Despite the presence of international Diana Kala in the team,
STC Finance struggled to find form against Westpac, maybe due to the long
Christmas and New Year Break.
