Finschhafen demand K5,000 from PNGFA

By SAMPSON BONAI
PNG Football Association Cup holders Finschhafen have called on PNGFA to give them their first prize money of K5,000.
Former international player and acting district sports co-ordinator Ogeng Pengekeo told The National by telephone from Finschhafen yesterday that they supported the PNGFA senior vice-president Seth Daniels’ call for a shake-up of the executives.
“PNGFA had done injustice to us,” he said.
“We won the FA Cup by defeating Port Moresby in the PNGFA Cup national championships and had been given a raw deal by the mother body for not paying us our prize money of K5,000.”
Pengekeo blamed the mother body for placing too much emphasis on international soccer and less time on the national scene to promote and develop soccer in many areas around the country.
“I appeal to (David) Chung and his administration to come down to the rural areas and to see for themselves how soccer is developing at the small centres rather than staying in Lae and talking about not meeting all the requirements of PNGFA to become full members,” he said.
“We want to see a change in the soccer leadership of this country.
“We want people who have vision to develop soccer and administer the game by working closely with all the soccer playing associations around the country to promote the code.”
