Kainantu administrator sidelined over prang

By ZACHERY PER
PUBLIC servants opting to misuse public utilities at their disposal should consider the consequential effects of their actions before doing so.

Eastern Highlands provincial administrator Munare Uyassi said this while making a decision to suspend Kainantu district administrator Ben Beyao for allegedly crashing a brand new Government vehicle while under the influence of liquor.
He said public utilities including vehicles and office facilities were State properties placed under the custody of public servants to utilise in the service of the people.
Mr Uyassi confirmed receiving the accident report yesterday saying the illegal use of the Government vehicle was in direct defiance of a directive from his office.
“I sent out a circular to all district administrators and divisional heads in the province to lock up all government vehicles during the Christmas and New Year period.”
He said he could not comprehend what the district administrator was using the vehicle – a brand new ambulance – for at the time of the year.
