Morobe teachers send petition

By SAMPSON BONAI
SOME 300 frustrated teachers yesterday prepared a petition to be handed to the Morobe administrator to sort out their woes by Jan 21.

Morobe administrator Manasupe Zurenuoc was not available yesterday but was expected to receive the petition today.
The petition was a call for an inquiry into the problems relating to their leave tickets.
“We, the remaining 300 teachers, who have not received our travel entitlements, would like to put our list of demands for your assistance to ensure that our leave entitlements are paid to us before Jan 21.
The petition states: “Non-privileged teachers affected by the late leave fares to be allowed additional two weeks leave after resumption forms are completed in 2008.
“Independent inquiry to be conducted into this ongoing problem and officers handling leave fares be investigated as there are rumours of misappropriation within the officers responsible for processing of the teachers leave fares.”
The teachers also called for the reshuffling of officers in positions related to processing of tickets and new officers to be appointed or a committee set up for proper screening purposes.
They also asked where a K17, 000 came from and benefited only a handful of teachers while the majority of the teachers seeking financial assistance to travel to their home provinces were not entertained.
