A MAN received knife wounds and buildings and properties worth thousands of kina were destroyed following a fight at a village along the North Coast Road in Rabaul, East New Britain.

Rabaul police station commander chief Insp Ronnie Neai said the fight started on Wednesday morning from a land dispute between the people from Raluan and Vunalair villages.
Insp Neai said seven youths from Raluan village went over to Vunalair village and cut down banana trees, destroyed several houses, attacked a man with bush knife and killed a pig.
Police in Rabaul raided Raluan village and arrested a man alleged to be the ring leader of the attacking youths.
He is in custody as police investigations continue.

ELCPNG praised
MOROBE Governor Luther Wenge has praised the Evangelical Lutheran church of PNG (ELCPNG) for its leadership in human resource development.
Mr Wenge was pressing for the immediate establishment of the Lutheran university.
“I would like to see enrolment at the university by 2009 because there are Highlands Lutheran Christians who would like to see their children educated at a Christian institution,” he said.
He said it was time ELCPNG concentrated on intellectual development while praising the church for being the leader in establishing educational institutions in the country.
Mr Wenge said there were over 450 Lutheran educational institutions in PNG, which was the highest in the country and urged churches to work closely with the Government in delivering services to the people.
