Eagles to face a tough Manolos

By EKONIA PENI
A CLOSE result is expected on Sunday between Brown Eagles and SPIA Manolos in the match of the weekend in the Port Moresby Digicel men’s competition.

And in the women’s Digicel competition Bee Hive Gazelle are favoured to tame the unpredictable Dolphins team in the main match tomorrow.
Manolos may have had a credible preparation when they defeated Dolphins 5-2 last weekend. While Eagles struggled with the bat when they lost 4-0 at the hands of Kopex.
Unless Eagles improve on their batting they could have problems scoring points with veteran hurler Isimel Marnapal back on the Manolos line up.
Marnapal pitched well last weekend and if he is going to be the choice for the pitching duties other than Saga Gimi then a solid combination with catcher Ora Gimi would provide the foundation for a Manolos assault.
Eagles have their own pitching sensation Apisai Guguna who combined well with George Pukur last weekend.
However, Guguna would be a loner if he does not receive the required batting support in order for Eagles to upset Manolos. An exciting game of softball is expected from both teams with close result being anticipated.
In the other matches, Airways Bears should have no problems over Malangan tomorrow. While on Sunday Dolphins and Samurai will have a close contest in the11am match and PNG Power should be favoured over Kopex.
Gazelle form should pick up tomorrow against Dolphins in the women’s contest as part of their preparation for a placing in the finals.
Internationals Jenny Pilak and Mechtil Raymond will lead the Antelopes although they should be cautious of Dolphin’s ability to turn the tables for an upset during the match.
In the other matches tomorrow, Stingerz is favoured over Dolphins in the washed out match at 9.4 am and Admiralty should have a hard time with Stingerz in the double-header at 12.15pm.
On Sunday Airways Bears would most likely forfeit Malangan if the Gans faily to field a team again.
