The Lukautim Mosbi project that involves youths and the police to maintain law and order during the festive period might continue in another method, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said last Saturday.
“It might continue as a neighbourhood watch project.
“And I have also allocated a total of K1.3 million in the NCDC budget to help youths to undertake technical training in vocational and technical colleges,” Mr Parkop said.
“Credit scheme as been set up for youths to get funds to set up their own business.
“And also this fund will cater for other projects that would engage the youths in other meaningful activities such as the taekwondo martial arts to kick off the drugs programme.”
He was speaking during a close up party for the Lukautim Mosbi project at the Gordon police station in Port Moresby.
The project involved about 500 youths who were engaged with police officers for about a month throughout the city.
It was successful as there were only 15 major crimes reported compared with past Christmas and New Year period where more than 20 major crimes used to be reported.
“I’m happy to engage the youths to help the police maintain law and order and also to clean up Port Moresby,” Mr Parkop said.
Moresby North East MP Andrew Mald, NCD/Central police commander assistant commission Awan Sete, ‘Kick the drugs out’ programme founder Jamuga Stone and Gordon police station commander Insp John Mark attended the event.
