Policeman’s wife missing since Dec 29

POLICE in Port Moresby are looking for a suspect who is alleged to have kidnapped the wife of a senior police sergeant and gone into hiding since last month.
The suspect is known to be from Tari in the Southern Highlands province.
He is understood to be hiding 25-year-old Anni Leo from Asaro, Eastern Highlands, wife of detective senior Sgt Leo Yapri.
The couple have been married for seven years.
Sgt Yapri is from the Enga province and is attached with the forensic unit at Gordon.
He fronted up at The National on Saturday after his appeal through various media outlets failed to convince the man to release his wife.
Sgt Yapri said last Dec 29, Anni was to meet him at his office at Gordons but had failed to turn up.
A search later on her whereabouts came up with nothing.
Sgt Yapri said he called his wife’s mobile phone and someone else answered claiming this was his wife’s phone.
Police also appealed for the person to turn up at a nearest police station but on all occasions he promised to turn up but failed to appear for questioning.
Relatives of Sgt Yapri last Friday raided a property of the suspect’s relatives at Gerehu Stage 2 where he believed his wife may have been kept.
Sgt Yapri appealed to the Tari community in Port Moresby to assist with apprehending the suspect or to report to the nearest police station.
The matter has been reported to the sexual offences squad and police are investigating.
