Public servants urged to change work
habits
BEING properly attired for work is the least the Deputy
Governor for Milne Bay would like to see from the public servants in the
province.
Samarai Murua MP, Gordon Wesley in his New Year message, said positive
work attitudes which included dressing, should start this year as a sign
of change, to work aggressively and coherently with the political
administration in delivering services to the people.
He called for a balanced relationship between public servants, the
administration and politicians to be a team to deliver.
Mr Wesley, who spoke on behalf of the governor and other three MPs,
pointed out that unproductive attitudes of chewing betelnut and smoking
during working hours should stop.
“Your conduct is of paramount importance and should be one that upholds
the integrity of your respective positions, divisions, our
administration, provincial government and the province as a whole.
“What a big difference we can do if we have pride in being professionals
not only in our office but in how we present ourselves as well.
Professionalism, integrity and dignity means competency performance to
the standard required,” he added.
He also commended the staff of two commercial banks, Westpac and Bank
South Pacific, for displaying professionalism in their work which
included being properly attired.
Mr Wesley, who is also the chairman of the PNG Tourism Board, would like
to see tourism picking up in the province.
“That will only come about if we are professional in our approaches and
our attitudes,” he said.
