‘Lifelines’ to Oro province open

By SHEILA LASIBORI
TWO of the three major bridge links between the central economic zone of Oro province – Popondetta town, and the province’s economic gateway Oro Bay – have been officially opened for public use.

The Sambogo and Eroro relief bridges were officially opened for use last Friday by the controller of the Oro State of Emergency Col Vagi Oala, Oro Governor Suckling Tamanabae, officials of the Department of Works and representatives of the local private sector including Ambogo Sawmill Limited.
Mr Tamanabae officiated at the Sambogo bridge opening while Mr Oala and Ambogo Sawmill’s general manage Raymond Lim officiated at Eroro.
Mr Oala said the relief bridges and other infrastructure being constructed were aimed at getting Oro’s economy back on the road.
Meanwhile, the Girua wet crossing was a cause for concern for motorists over the weekend.
A vehicle was washed downstream last Friday night and as a result, traffic was halted until yesterday morning.
By yesterday afternoon, Works Department officers completed the log bridge and motorists were allowed to use it while the workers continued to work on the wet crossing.
