Chung’s comments challenged

I REFER to the story “NSL challenged” (Jan 7). As a soccer fanatic and follower of the semi-professional soccer in PNG since its inception last year, I brand the comments by PNG Football Association president David Chung as very shallow and detrimental to the code.
Chung, as the soccer chief in PNG and vice-president of the Oceania Football Confederation, must be seen as a happy person, because soccer in this country has taken a new twist by focusing on grooming players to be professional footballers.
As an observer, I see Chung’s comments as personal on the NSL board, headed by businessmen John Kapi Natto and Wesley Raminai.
Both have put in their time, effort and resources to push soccer into another level.
This is a marketing strategy and as Papua New Guineans, we must be proud of them.
As far as I can remember, Chung was absent during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Telikom NSL, which is helping to promote PNGFA.
This showed your interest in promoting soccer in this country.
I find several players in the NSL to be very talented, skilful and competitive.
I challenge Chung to tell soccer followers, administrators and players what marketing strategy he has in place to promote these talented individual players to be professional players one day.
For the good of the soccer in this country, I urge Chung to stop going to the media to criticise the NSL board and its operations.
