Gazelle thumps Dolphins

By EKONIA PENI
Margaret Bundu’s slow pitching was magical as she led Bee Hive Gazelle to thrash Dolphins 14-3 in the Digicel Port Moresby women’s softball competition at the weekend.

Bundu showed glimpes of her usual form of several seasons ago when she was pitching for the now defuncted All Stars team.
Two of the Stars players then Pala Manet and Bundu joined Gazelle with valuable playing experiences with Pala cementing the second base position.
And Bundu never let the Antelopes down when she was used as first up pitcher for the entire match in place of regular pitcher Grace Wanma.
The batting required was even solid as Gazelle piled on four runs at the bottom of the first inning in reply to Dolphins two runs at the top of that inning.
Both teams were scoreless in the second inning with Bundu going one better at the top of three to restrict Dolphins from scoring.
The third inning was devastating for Dolphins when Gazelle batted well and took advantage of some sloppy fielding errors by Dolphins and piled on 10 runs that took the match beyond reach.
Plate umpire Moses Tolingling did not hestiate to use the mercy run and called off the match at the top of the fourth inning when Dolphins were unable to score enough runs to force the match into the fifth inning.
Shot-stopper Navasah Pilak was Gazelle’s best for her batting and fielding class while Vero Aisi played well for Dolphins.
In the other matches on Saturday, Stingerz continued their good form when they won their two scheduled games. Stingerz firstly thrashed Dolphins 12-5 in the washed match and then backed up with a 10-5 win over Admiralty.
Catcher Nicky Simba and Zilpa Ene were shining stars for Stingerz in the two matches.
Airways Bears on the other hand forfeited Malangan who again filed to field their senior weekend.
