Membership fees to pay legal costs

AN anonymous landowner has claimed in a letter to a newspaper that the Daulo Landowners Association has collected membership fees from principal landowners and that it is illegal.
The association is currently pursuing a legal case which involves millions of kina but to do this, it requires a considerable amount of money to pay the legal fees and other costs.
No one can claim to be a member of any organisation without contributing financially.
The collection of membership fees from principal landowners is therefore justified.
The very people who worked tirelessly to bring the case to where it is today are the principle landowners from Asaro, Mando, Korepa and Watabung.
They have been able to do this thanks in part to the membership fees and other personal contributions.
There are also landowners from these four areas and neighbouring villages who work and live in other parts of the country and they can contribute to the association to fight the case.
The claim that non-principal landowners are also contributing money and paying membership fees to the association is utter rubbish.
If the complainant is a genuine landowner and genuinely concerned about the affairs of the association, he should come up with constructive ideas to help it pursue the case.
If he would put down his real name and contact address, the executives could also respond to him directly.
Nothing can be achieved by taking a backseat and criticising.
