Morobe villagers recover banana boat snatched by raskols

By SAMPSON BONAI
MOROBE villagers have recovered a 23-footer banana boat that was snatched by armed gangmen while its passengers were on their way to Busong village in Bukawa last week.
Morobe provincial police commander Chief Inspector Donald Yamasombi confirmed the boat’s recovery.
He said the people from Kikeleng village found the boat minus its 40hp Yamaha outboard motor yesterday.
It was found abandoned at the mouth of Situm river and police believed the culprits left with the outboard on foot towards Lae.
“I’m appealing to the public to report to police any sightings of these people so they could be rounded up and questioned,” Mr Yamasombi said.
“I’m also appealing to the people living along the coast from Lae to Finschhafen, Salamaua and Morobe south coast to watch out for people trying to sell a 40hp Yamaha outboard motor and to report them to police,” he added.
“Three men held up the operator and its passengers as they were travelling to Bosing village and diverted them to Busu Point where they were robbed before fleeing in their boat,” he added.
