Hope extends awareness services

By DAVID KAPI
HOPE Worldwide (PNG) Inc is going a step further in carrying out awareness with the fight against HIV/AIDS in settlement communities around Port Moresby through its sexual health services projects.
With the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the sexually transmitted infections growing at a prevalent rate, Hope worldwide sexual health services has involved local people as outreach volunteers to assist peer education and awareness in NCD.
It aims to recruit about 60 volunteers in the National Capital District.
The 60 outreach recruits will undergo a three-week training before they are dispatched to the field.
Hope Worldwide (PNG) Inc sexual health services project officer David Opa said the outreach was a volunteer programme and needed the support of the community in its coordination.
Services provided at the 9-Mile clinic included free medical checks, blood tests, distribution of condoms, education on STI and HIV and patient referral to Heduru clinic at the Port Moresby General Hospital or other service providers.
The project is jointly funded by Family Health International.
