Rural police need more Govt support

POLICE need Government support to function more effectively in upholding the laws of this country to ensure there is peace and harmony in the country.
Morobe provincial police commander Chief Insp Augustine Wampe said the Government needed to improve the living and working conditions of police personnel living in rural areas.
“Police lack proper logistic support such as vehicles and men and improved living conditions such as accommodation in the rural areas to enable them to continue in their duties to uphold the laws of this country,” Mr Wampe said.
“Policemen and women were working under very trying conditions in rural areas and the Government must take appropriate actions to look into their plight by making funding available to purchase vehicles and build proper housing for them,” Mr Wampe said.
He thanked the police for working tirelessly to uphold law and order in Wau despite the lack of proper support and the living conditions at the condemned police barracks.
Wau police station commander Insp Allan Gualin also commended them for doing a good job but admitted they lacked adequate support to carry out their duties effectively.
Wau police are living in a condemned police barracks and are awaiting Government funding for the construction of new accommodation.
