Man retracts rape allegation

A MAN, who accused an officer of the National AIDS Council Secretariat of raping his daughter in Port Moresby recently, has retracted his statement.
“I retract all my comments that were published in The National (Jan 8) and would leave it to the police to investigate,” Mr Joe Kupo said yesterday.
“The secretariat is doing a good job to campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country and they (NAC) should not be unnecessarily marred and dragged into this incident,” he added.
The secretariat’s acting director Bomal Gonapa said the allegation was made by Mr Kupo and others.
“He was frustrated and upset,” he said.
Mr Gonapa also said it was untrue that funds from foreign donors and the National Government had been used for other purposes than intended.
Meanwhile, police have advised Mr Kupo’s daughter to undergo a medical check-up to help with the investigation into the alleged rape last Jan 5.
