PNG FM licence renewed

PNG FM’s broadcasting licence has been renewed by Pangtel for another 10 years after a “long and difficult process”.
Pangtel acting director-general Charles Punaha said although there had had differences in opinions, both parties had maintained a good working relationship to resolve the issues in the 13 months leading up to the renewal.
He commended PNG FM Ltd for its cooperation.
“PNG FM is the last main commercial broadcaster in the country to be issued with a licence,” he added.
The others are Kalang FM 100 and FM Central.
PNG FM general manager Peter Aitsi said one of the major terms and conditions set in the agreement was that the company should encourage local ownership and shareholding.
He said they would be looking at this in the next few months.
