Rams too strong for Stones

BUMBU Rams proved too strong for Value Inn Stones to win 10-6 in a tough round 10 of the Buimo Road off-season rugby league competition in Lae last weekend.

Rams were everywhere on the paddock with big forwards Paul Green, Apolly David, John Gecko and Michael Bean putting their bodies on the line to penetrate Stones territory.
Five-eight Sticky Adam was in devastating form and ensured that the ball was distributed evenly for the centres Tonny Raphael and Manu Caspar to link up with wingers Tonny Kamilus and Togat Kelly.
Stones had the opportunity to score with forwards Martin Michael, Max Maima and Paul Imbo leading their frontline assault into Rams territory but lacked support from five-eight Stuart Kaupa and halfback Luke Mathew to ensure the ball was kept alive and flowed along the backline to convert the opportunities into points.
As the game intensified midway into the first half, Rams were penalised near their own tryline for an infringement and Stones fullback Arnold Teine grabbed the two points to put them in front 2-0.
Rams got their act together and replied a few minutes later from a good ball movement along the backline that passed through three pairs of hands before flying centre Raphael outpaced the last line of defence to ground the ball to take over the lead 4-2.
Mistakes began to creep into Stones game and they started playing individual game and created gaping holes in the backline allowing Rams winger Togat Kelly to slip past to score in the corner for an unconverted try to stretch their lead to 8-2.
