Chinese are industrious
THERE is a general misconception
about how the Chinese conduct their business and how they have
flourished in our country.
It is important that as a developing society, we must educate
ourselves in order to better understand the cultures and behaviour
of other people, especially in this age of globalisation.
I admit that I also shared the common misconceptions but have
changed since landing in China and learning about its history and
culture.
Talking to people from all walks of life, I have come to
understand the way they live, think and work.
The Chinese are a very industrious people and have been for
centuries.
Using simple technology, the “little” people can now produce goods
for export.
We must also appreciate the fact that early Chinese traders
actually laid the foundation for our economy, operating
plantations and shipping.
Of course, Germans, Australians and other nationalities also
contributed to our development.
PNG has strong diplomatic relations with China and Asean
countries.
They are in a region that is important not only politically but
also economically.
The number of Papua New Guineans studying in China is small
compared to the small Kingdom of Tonga.
It is perhaps the right time now to listen to what comes out of
our good PNG embassy in Beijing and start increasing the number of
Papua New Guineans studying in China.
Not only will we be
able to better understand
China and its people, but we can also improve ourselves and
develop our country in the process.
