Prison officer charged with rape

A SENIOR officer at the Kerevat Correctional Institution in East New Britain was arrested and charged yesterday for allegedly sexually harassing a prison officer’s wife.
East New Britain police said the suspect would appear at the Kokopo district court for mention today.
The suspect was released by Kokopo police on bail according to his own recognition.
The incident took place last Nov 22.
It was reported that the suspect sexually harassed the wife of one of the warders at the institution, and they reported the matter to police.
Meanwhile, police said a 26-year-old man had been charged and detained for raping his own sister.
The man, from the Toma area, was alleged to have lured his sister with some money into the nearby bushes where he raped her.
