ABOUT 1.3 million students and 39,000 teachers are expected in this year’s school opening.
In his welcome address yesterday, Department of Education (DOE) Secretary Dr Joseph Pagelio said classes would resume on Jan 29 and teachers are expected to return to school on Monday to prepare for enrolment.
Dr Pagelio had stressed the need for teachers’ punctuality and preparations for the new school year.
“Teachers must make sure they arrive in their schools in time to resume duties in their respective assignments and not anywhere else like the Education office.
“They can only be maintained on the payroll by resuming duty in the school to which they have been posted,” Dr Pagelio said.
The secretary had issued a seven-week notice for teachers to fill in a registration forms with all their personal details and other necessary information.
He said the forms had to be sent by fax to the Department of Education for teachers’ enclosure on the payroll..
“Once the seven weeks are over and if a teacher failed to submit the registration form, he or she will be automatically suspended from the payroll.”
He said DOE’s targets for 2007, under the national education plan include:
