GG welcomes French envoy

By DAVID KAPI
FRENCH ambassador-designate to Papua New Guinea Patrick Boursin yesterday presented his credentials to Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane at Government House.
Sir Paulias welcomed the new envoy on behalf of the Government and people of Papua New Guinea and congratulated Mr Boursin on his appointment as France’s ambassador by French president Jacques Chirac.
“We are grateful to receive you and look forward to cooperating with you to strengthen and enhance the existing cordial relations between Papua New Guinea and the Republic of France.
“I assure you that the Government of Papua New Guinea stands ready to render all the support and assistance you may require in executing your duties on behalf your country,” Sir Paulias said.
Mr Boursin had been representing his country in the Caribbean community and was now filling a vacancy left by the untimely death of the late ambassador Jacques Oliver Manent last July.
Mr Boursin said it was a great honour and privilege to be the French envoy in PNG.
“It is my first experience in Oceania and I am glad to have this exciting experience in such a beautiful country like PNG,” he said.
