Inquiry far from truth, says Salika

By JULIA DAIA BORE
THE chairman of the PNG Defence Force Board of Inquiry Justice Gibbs Salika yesterday said the inquiry was nearing the end of calling witnesses to give evidence.
However, the evidence tendered at the inquiry to date, was still nowhere near uncovering the truth about who in Government gave the orders for the use of the Defence Force CASA to deliver fugitive Julian Moti to Munda in Solomon Islands in the early hours of Oct 10 last year.
“All key players have come and given their evidence. But we have not come an inch closer to the truth,” Justice Salika said after yesterday’s proceedings.
He said that as of yesterday, the inquiry would have heard evidence from well over 30 witnesses about the Moti saga and PNGDF-related issues on financial accounting and effective management, among others, as per the inquiry’s terms of references.
Justice Salika said there was more than enough information available to write up the report but the inquiry had yet to establish who gave the order to spirit Moti to the Solomons on Oct 10.
The inquiry is into its fourth of the eight weeks granted for the proceedings.
