Bird denies media reports

SEPIK businessman Allan Bird has denied reports that he will stand for the East Sepik regional seat under the New Generation Party (NGP) banner.
“I am deeply angered and upset that the Post- Courier has seen fit to tarnish my reputation by publishing an unsubstantiated report,” Mr Bird said in a statement.
He stated that the report belittled him and had angered his people in the Sepik hinterland. “For the record, there have been numerous approaches to me by many political parties to contest the East Sepik regional seat.
“NGP executives have approached my office in Madang and Wewak on several occasions and they have been met with the same answer,” he said.
Mr Bird said the first personal approach was made by a gentleman purporting to be an executive of NGP.
“I politely told him I was not interested.
“For the record, I am yet to be convinced that the Sepik people have had a change of heart and therefore see little reason to waste precious resources trying to convince them otherwise.
“The Sepik people made their choice in 2002 and I for one will continue to respect that decision,” he stated.
Mr Bird said the NGP would do well to check the credentials of the kinds of people it chooses to associate itself with.
“If this is the kind of tactic that they will employ here in East Sepik, they will not win many friends.”
