Visit to Buka and Kimbe called off
By HENRY MORABANG
FIFA president Sepp Blatter will not
travel to Bougainville and Kimbe in West New Britain province.
Though both PNGFA and OFC were tightlipped about Blatter’s tour
itinerary, The National, understands that the FIFA boss would not
have time to extend the trip beyond Port Moresby.
According to highly-placed source within the organising committee,
Blatter and his FIFA delegation will fly out tomorrow morning for
Russia.
Today, Blatter will witness the Oceania Football Confederation
Congress in the morning and in the afternoon, officiate at the
ground-breaking ceremony of the OFC-funded mini pitch at Kila Kila
Secondary School, and then proceed to Koki Settlement Learning
Centre.
At 3.45pm, Blatter will visit the HIV/AIDS ward at the Port
Moresby General Hospital.
Port Moresby General Hospital’s chief executive officer Dr
Alphonse Tay confirmed that Blatter would visit the HIV/AIDs
patient at the hospital this afternoon.
Tomorrow morning, Blatter leaves for Moscow, where he will
continue his campaign for the FIFA general election in May.
With Blatter not travelling to Bougainville, the President of
Autonomous Bougainville Government Joseph Kabiu will lead a
delegation to Port Moresby to make a presentation to him.
It was originally planned that Blatter will visit Bougainville to
launch the Football for Hope programme funded jointly funded by
FIFA and United Nation.
However, PNGFA and OFC delegation led by Reynald Temarii will
instead travel to Buka and then to Kimbe to officially open the
New Guinea Islands Soccer Academy in Kimbe.
The NGI Soccer Academy is one of the two soccer academies funded
under partnership agreement between OFC through their goal
project, PNGFA and the stakeholders.
The second soccer academy for the Highlands region is based in
Wabag, which is counter-funded by OFC and the Enga provincial
government.
