Digicel unveils winners of Xmas ‘calling’ contests

CELL phone service provider Digicel has announced the winners of its international inbound and outbound calling competition.
The prize, a cheque for K10,000, was handed over to each of the two prize winners on Wednesday afternoon.
The competition was open to all Digicel customers who received an international call or made a call overseas on their Digicel mobile phones between Dec 16 and Jan 5.
Digicel said there was a tremendous response with tens of thousands of entries to be drawn from. The lucky winners were drawn live on NAU FM radio last Friday, during the early morning Digicel Challenge show.
Lucky inbound call winner Francie Bray was over the moon, saying that “it was her birthday gift from God”, and thanked Digicel for making her birthday celebration a memorable one.
Bray said that she got a text message on her birthday last Dec 3, from Digicel customer care service through ‘400’ reminding customers to get their friends overseas to call on a Digicel phone for a chance to get into the draw to win K10,000.
“I had this strong feeling that I would win the prize given that I received the text message from Digicel customer care on my birthday,” Bray said.
Outbound call prize winner Jonah Binamo described his win as “the best thing that had ever happened to him in his life” and could not wish for more. He said with a grin: “Different people would say it in different ways how Digicel has impacted their lives, but for me, its special, I can’t describe the feeling. I will remember this.”
Jonah added “I never expected to win. All that mattered to me was a reliable and affordable communications service and Digicel has bridged the gap. I believe it is a basic need to be able to communicate with family members.
We never had this service before but now we can afford it, thanks to Digicel! Now we can communicate with our families overseas on our Digicel phones.”
Digicel PNG chief executive Kevin O’Sullivan, when presenting the two K10,000 cheques to the two lucky winners said: “I am very happy to be able to hand over these prizes to such enthusiastic Digicel customers.
“We plan on continuing to organise Digicel competitions which will surprise and delight our customers in the most innovative ways.”.
