PMV operators not pleased with new fare

PMV operators in East New Britain are not happy with the 10 toea fare increase approved by the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC).
They want to increase the fares by between 30 and 50 toea more and some have already implemented the new rates.
Some PMVs had hand-written notices informing passengers of the new fare.
Provincial Land Transport Board chairman Allan ToVue said the operators voted for the additional increase at their association meeting recently.
He warned that they could not increase the fares without approval from the authorities.
“Our officers have been out on the streets checking,” he said.
Several operators gathered at Malaguna in Rabaul yesterday to voice their displeasure over the 10 toea increase.
The association’s interim president, Steven Raflin, urged the board to discuss the matter with the ICCC.
