Unitech NASA broke

By FRANK RAI
THE National Academic Staff Association (NASA) of the PNG University of Technolgy (Unitech) is broke.

It is now sending a public appeal for donations to fight a protracted court battle with Unitech administration.
This came after a private law firm representing NASA delivered a warning letter to NASA last week claiming that their dues should be paid or there would be no representation.
In the letter, the law firm (named) warned that the outstanding totalled K25,000.
It has to be settled before any further legal representation.
NASA executives told reporters yesterday in Lae that they were broke and they had no money in their account to pay off the legal fees.
The academics met yesterday to launch a public appeal for donations from former association members, Unitech alumni in the country and abroad, friends and the public.
They said since they did not have the financial capacity, the court battle would not be concluded.
NASA members would carry out fundraising activities and make personal contributions.
“We have no money ... help us so that we can defend our rights properly in court next month,” senior executive Robert Songan said.
