TIPNG to set up centre to address complaints

TRANSPARENCY International (PNG) intends to set up a centre to receive and act on complaints of corrupt practices.
Chairman Mike Manning said some complaints which they had referred to the Ombudsman Commission and Police Fraud Squad were not acted upon.
He said this project would require funding from overseas.
“In the meantime, we are doing our best to get funds from the Berlin office,” he told The National yesterday.
Mr Manning also thanked Lihir Gold Limited, who donated K250,000 to support Transparency International (PNG)’s activities.
He appealed to other companies to support efforts for good governance and transparency in the country.
He said his organisation had set up various long-term projects for this year and needed all the assistance it could get.
Lihir Gold chief Arthur Hood said the company was pleased to join the broad coalition of organisations in support to Transparency International (PNG).
