‘Educated elites’ cause of problems

A COUNCILLOR from Nipa in Southern Highlands has accused “educated elites” living in Port Moresby as the cause of road-blocks and tribal tension in the province.
Mr Andrew Kit Inja from Poroma made the allegation after he was airlifted to Port Moresby for treatment.
He had also reported some senior public servants in Port Moresby to the police for allegedly trying to kill him and assault.
He sustained serious head and body injuries and was in coma for two days before being airlifted.
Mr Injia told The National that he was invited by a businessman at Poroma for a pig killing ceremony and feast last Friday.
At the ceremony, a senior lawyer of a Government agency accused him of borrowing K375 and failing to repay the money.
“The lawyer punched me and a policeman from the Mobile Squad 9 based in Tari hit me with a branch, breaking my collar bone,” he said.
Mr Inja said it was not the first incident involving senior public servants and their tribesmen.
Mendi police, describing the situation as “still tense”, said they would remove the roadblocks.
