Rangers to help Buka town improve its outlook

THE Buka Urban Town Council has placed rangers to help control littering and improve the town’s outlook.
According to town manageress Brenda Tohiana, an agreement was signed between the North Bougainville veterans’ association and the town council last September for the ex-combatants to become town rangers.
Mrs Tohiana said the rangers were responsible for conducting awareness programme on the proper disposal of rubbish, control of illegal vending and spot fines on people littering in public.
Mrs Tohiana said the project was still being trialled and that there was an improvement in the control of rubbish.
A new garbage compactor was also bought with funds provided by the Autonomous Bougainville Government to help in the clean-up campaign.
