School fee a worry

PARENTS in some parts of Rigo, which were hit by strong winds recently, fear they may not be able to pay for their children’s school fees.
Apart from some houses, the 70kph winds also destroyed several banana plantations in Sivitatana, Kaoro, Saroa and Kwikila, leaving the families without income.
One concerned parent said that they would normally be harvesting their bananas during this time of the year.
“We don’t know how we are going to raise money to pay for school fees,” he said.
Some villagers have started replanting their crops while others are hoping to receive assistance from relatives.
The community is also planning a fundraiser to help those badly affected.
The district office is expected to submit a report to the provincial disaster office.
