More people urged to register births

By SAMPSON BONAI
ONLY 10,000 out of an estimated 170,000 people in Morobe have registered their births with the civil registry.

Morobe’s registrar of births, deaths and marriages Geibob Keputong is now urging all who have not registered to do so immediately at their district headquarters.
He said the birth certificate was an important document for everyone.
Free birth registration was offered to the people of Morobe since 2004.
They now have to pay K15 for a birth certificate.
Mr Keputong said companies in Lae have also been sent application forms for birth registration .
He said the civil registry office in Port Moresby will enter all the registered names into a data base and issue birth registration certificates.
