Competition needed to improve telephone services

IT is noted with interest ads for B Mobile giving discounts and telling of its improved services.
Previously, we were told only to record profits.
This change is obviously due to competition.
There is no improvement for landline customers as they still have to endure some of the world’s biggest tariffs for a very poor service by world standards.
The reason is because there is no competition in this sector and it is clear this situation will continue until there is competition.
For example, Karkar Island is surrounded by Digicel towers with generators running while Telikom has no mobile coverage and regular telephone service for days.
This is worrying on an island with more than 40,000 people and an active volcano. Also in spite of best efforts of local technicians and some support from Moresby and Lae, we have lost internet connection for the last four months due to equipment problems.
It is time obviously to have full competition so the people can have an affordable and reliable telephone service.
