Chung told to accept criticism
PUBLIC office holders in soccer hierarchy must accept
constructive criticisms to enable them to perform their duties to the
expectation of all stakeholders.
Outspoken and sidelined senior vice-president Seth Daniels called on PNG
Football Association president David Chung to accept constructive criticisms
for the good of the development of the code in PNG.
“I call on Chung to accept all forms of criticisms when people criticise
PNGFA. He must step forward and clean his own backyard before defending his
actions,” Daniels said.
He also called on the PNGFA president not to interfere with the affairs of
National Soccer League as chairman John Kapi Natto and his board had been
given the mandate to run the competition, and Natto was the sole person to
make any statement regarding the administration of the semi-professional
game.
Meanwhile, Chung came out in the media yesterday stating that NSL is a
braind child of the current PNGFA executive and as soccer boss, he has the
right to speak on matters surrounding soccer or NSL for that matter.
20 teams for POM Corporate touch
By THADDEUS TIRIMAN
Only 20 clubs will be allowed to participate in this years Port Moresby
Corporate Touch Competition. That’s a big slash
from a record 98 teams playing in the competition last year.
President Joe Yore has called upon corporate bodies to affiliate to the
competition early so as to avoid being excluded from this season. The
deadline for affiliation fees is strictly January 31 and late submissions
will not be accepted.
“Twenty teams were too much for us. We had to play all the games until late
at night. And not only that, but the games were played through for three
nights every week”.
This year the association’s aim is to play all games, on Monday nights only.
The Port Moresby Corporate Touch competition pre-season starts next week
Monday and ends on February 14 at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
So far only Bishop Brothers, Niuford Waterboard and Pacific Equities and
Investments have fully paid their club and player registration fees. Other
teams that have confirmed but are yet to pay their full fees, are BSP Bank,
Daltron, Ela Motors, Leahys Water Deliveries, LJ Hooker, Nambawan Super,
NASFUND, ATIL-56 and CAA.
POM cricket final round
By PETER PUSAL
With seven rounds to go before the finals in the Port Moresby A Grade
cricket competition this weekend’s round of matches will see the top four
teams fight to consolidate their spots after some shock results from the
last round.
In Saturday’s game at Amini Park, KCC will lock horns with Raukele as both
last game losers will try to regain their momentum with a win. Raukele
especially were embarrassed in their woeful loss to a very good Mobil STC.
Also on Saturday over at Colts oval a rampant Steamies with the wind in
their sails after their one-sided win over Raukele last week will be looking
to repeat some of that treatment against an equally confident BNG Poreporena
who accounted for SNS United last week.
The Sunday games will see Amini park play host to Hanubada teams Mariners
and SNS United. Colts oval will have Wesram Taora looking to lengthen their
improbable winning streak to three in a row if they can handle a TST
Coasters team that is starting to look ominous after a well paced victory
last week over the struggling Mariners.
The competition ladder from the last round has Raukele (36), SNS United
(31), BNG Poreporena (24), and KCC (19) making up the top four followed by
Mobil STC (16), Wesram Taora (15), TST Coasters (8) and Mariners (7).
Meanwhile in other cricket news the PNG Women’s cricket team who were
initially scheduled to play rivals Pakistan in a World Cup qualifier in
Lahore, Pakistan in February has had their venue changed as a result of the
unrest in Pakistan following the recent killing of Benazir Bhutto.
PNG’s world cup qualifier against Pakistan will now be played in
Stellenbosch, South Africa on the same dates as originally scheduled.
