PNG Power favoured
over Manolos
By EKONIA PENI
TOP team PNG Power are favoured over SPIA Manolos when they clash on Sunday
in the main match of the Port Moresby Digicel softball competition.
While the four contenders for top four placings Airways Bears and LBC
Gazelle are bracing for an exciting affair when they clash in tomorrow’s
match of the day.
Manolos boast two hard working pitchers in Saga Gimi and Isimel Marnapal
whose efforts last weekend were evident when Manolos nailed Brown Eagles
10-nil.
However, given PNG Power’s own class in pitcher Danny Tovia Manolos must be
reminded to maintain their batting form from last weekend to record another
win.
Judging by their batting display against Eagles, there’s no doubt that
Manolos should be able to measure up unless they become their own worst
enemies if they fail to focus on batting on the day itself.
The combination of Danny (pitcher) and his catcher brother Isikel Tovia and
an expected batting display should be PNG Power’s winning cards that could
upset Manolos plan for another win.
If Manolos can overcome these obstacles and bat well against Danny, then
they should beat PNG Power as they did to Brown Eagles.
Being on bye last weekend was no good preparation for Gazelle as they
prepare to face Bears who thrashed Malangan 15-3 last weekend.
The Bear’s big win though was not a good build up for this tough contest,
and the grizzlies will need to be prepared for some opposition from Gazelle,
who will be spearheaded by pitchers Nelson Kiap and Patrick Pilak.
On form though the Bears should win.
In the other matches on Sunday, Brown Eagles will be challenged by Dolphins
and Kopex should beat Malangan.
In the women’s matches Bee Hive Gazelle should beat Admiralty in tomorrow’s
mid afternoon clash and on Sunday, Bears should be comfortable against
Dolphins.
Stingerz are officially on bye and Budget Real Estate Wantoks will collect
easy points from Malangan’s inability to field their A and B grade teams.
