Mioks on recruitment drive

TOYOTA Enga Mioks are targeting Enga players from established playing centres in the country in its bid to select a formidable 25-man squad for the 2008 SP Cup competition.

A working committee has been set up by Mioks Board chairman Robert Ganim and the Organising Committee chairman Eddie Mullers plus former coach Sutherland Yore.
The recruitment drive was organised to restore lost pride after last year’s season performance, which was chaotic and also bringing the game into disrepute by players’ unruly behaviour.
“We (Toyota Mioks Board) have changed our selection criteria and format to select players nationwide,” Ganim said.
“We are looking at established centres like Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang and Goroka and others to identify and recruit potential players.
“Preference will be given to Engans playing in other centres and also in Wabag and Pogera leagues. We also have interest in non-Engans as we did in 2006,” he said.
Ganim said a 25-man train-on squad from Enga would be finalised this weekend to play about four trial matches with other centres.
The Mioks chairman said his team would play its first game against a select-side from Kainantu Rugby League next weekend in Kainantu. The other two matches would be against North Goroka in Goroka and Gomis in Mt Hagen.
The final 25-man squad will be selected after the final trial match with reigning champions, Mabey and Johnson Muruks next month.
He added his board would not entertain undisciplined players.
