Leaders must think outside the box

ONE impediment to proposing and initiating tangible and robust development in PNG is the inability of our leaders to “think out of the box”.
To do so requires innovation, vision, honesty, dedication, vigilance and commitment.
Parliament is where we need good brains to think strategically and debate constructively to change PNG for better.
We have taken democracy for granted that we vote illiterate and semi-literate people into Parliament, people who do not have any sound expertise to offer to the development of the nation.
Worse, such MPs do not see the need to regularly attend Parliament sessions because they have nothing valuable to offer.
Even when they do participate, it is superficial and lacks substance.
I do not really blame them as
voters chose them to be in Parliament.
Voters need to be educated on what to look out for in leaders if we are to stop the ongoing cycle of people getting into Parliament, grabbing anything and leaving.
It is sad to note many parts of the country still have the infrastructure built during the colonial days and which have surpassed their life-span.
When we have intelligent leaders at the controls, even with limited resources, PNG will prosper.
