WNB presents
K61.22million budget
By MARILYN PAUL
THE West New Britain provincial government budget of K61,221,800 was
presented to Treasurer Sir Rabbie Namaliu last Tuesday.
It was funded through the National Government grant of K36,221,800 and
provincial internal revenue of K24,840,000.
In his budget speech, Governor Clement Nakmai said the National
Government grants were mostly conditional and are tied to health,
education, local Level government, village courts and transport
infrastructure maintenance.
A good portion of the grant was basically to cover personnel
compensations for public servants and teachers.
This year, derivation grant has been increased to K4,273,000 from
K2,620,200 last year.
Mr Nakmai said that this year, the Government would continue to provide
funds for the
development and upgrading of provincial assets, especially in areas of
education, health and roads.
The amount of K8.1 million has been set aside with K1 million from the
National Government grant and K7.1 million raised by the province.
General administration this year will cost K5 million and will be funded
from the derivation grant as well as provincial internal revenue.
The Government continues to support, facilitate and fund economic impact
projects that would empower the people to own their own business.
At least K4.2 million has been set aside to cover the Government’s
contribution in projects as well as feasibility studies in new projects.
For these, funds have been sourced from the derivation grants and
internal revenue.
According to the provincial budget the health sector was allocated K2.5
million, the education service will receive K4.2.
The total allocation for the 11 local level governments is K3.06 million
while that of community services will get K1.3 million.
An amount of K633,000 was provided for in the budget for law and order
while other areas like boards and committees created by the Government
under some legislation or arrangements and recognised by the Government
have been allocated K2.2 million.
